DELTONA, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) – A Volusia County Sheriff’s deputy was involved in a shooting Wednesday morning while serving a narcotics search warrant in Deltona.

Deputies say they were deployed to a home on Maybrook Drive to serve the warrant when 26-year-old Derek Cruice allegedly advanced on a member of the SWAT Team who was entering the home.

Officials say at about 6:32 a.m. the deputy later identified as 36-year old Todd Raible opened fire one time, shooting Cruice in the face while just inside the doorway of the home.

Authorities say he was transported by ambulance to Florida Hospital Fish Memorial in Orange City and later pronounced dead.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement will be investigating the shooting, which is customary in officer-involved shootings.

The deputy has been temporarily placed on administrative leave, also customary in officer-involved shootings.
